Chapter: 48
Even a tube of toothpaste in that supermarket cost more than a month's salary; she didn't think she was in a position to find anything there interesting.
"Here." Jonathan opened the armrest storage and pulled out a bank card. "Take it"
“No, thanks," Bethany refused without hesitation. “I already owe you a fortune for covering my mother's medical bills."
“Bethany, this is for emergencies." Having anticipated her reluctance, Jonathan had prepared a reason in advance. "There's not much money in this account, but you can use it to buy some food after work. It can also come in handy if your mother has an emergency and you can't reach me."
His excuse left Bethany with no choice but to accept.
After handing her the card, Jonathan quickly changed the subject to work. "When you go to the headquarters for further training, you can work with Brody on an EMC project."
“Energy Management Contract?" Bethany's eyes lit up excitedly.
"That's a big project!"
"Yes," Jonathan nodded. “SNS is planning to raise a new round of financing and expand its business scope. They'll contact the securities dealers to prepare for the stock market.”
Bethany's excitement then turned into confusion. "But I don't know much about it."
"That's why you'll need to do market research with Brody first. It'll be tough. You'll need to compare SNS's performance with other Listed and non-listed companies in the industry."
"I'm not afraid of hard work!" Bethany exclaimed with fierce determination, pushing aside her inexplicable low mood. Rubbing her chin, she started to analyze the situation carefully. "The energy-saving industry is indeed promising. Many cities suffer from serious pollution, and protecting the environment is crucial. Currently, there aren't many companies in this field, so we don't have to worry about market saturation anytime soon."
Jonathan nodded, his eyes sparkling with appreciation.
He always knew that Bethany was a smart cookie that deserved better opportunities.
If it weren't for the heavy burden she shouldered, she would have been an investment director by now-or even higher.
"Thank you for this wonderful opportunity, Mr. Bates," Bethany said sincerely.
She didn't care about the bonus; simply being involved in the company's core business processes was a dream for many graduates.
"Mr. Bates? You can call me Jon."
“I'm not used to calling you Jon!" Bethany was so happy that she forgot all about her awkwardness. “How about I call you Jonathan, just like when we were in middle school?"
"Sure." Turning his head, Jonathan met Bethany's gaze and teased, "So, you've finally admitted it."
Bethany chuckled. “I was just afraid you'd misunderstand me if I mentioned we used to be classmates. What if you thought I just wanted to take advantage of that?"
“I wouldn't let you take advantage of me," Jonathan replied simply, his tone calm yet firm. "I'd give you opportunities to grow, but I'd never be willing to clean up your messes."
Bethany had seen just how shrewd a businessman Jonathan was during their business trip to Degend.
If the replenishment costs ended up being too high, she was sure Jonathan would decisively abandon the project.
