Chapter: 505
"Yes, I've covered up a lot for you because you're my friend. You've manipulated me many times, haven't you? But this time, can't you just do this one thing for me? Give me the child and don't harm him! Don't do something you might regret later!"

Regret?

The only thing Maddie now regretted was not killing Bethany earlier.

“I don't know where the child is, so how can I give him to you?"

“You're hopeless! I'm going to Jonathan to have him look into your actions!"

At his threat, Maddie panicked. "Why would you do that? He already doesn't trust me. If you tell him that, he'll surely investigate!"

"If you're innocent, why fear an investigation? Maddie, I gave you an opportunity. I said if you give me the child, I won't mention anything to Jonathan. I'll just tell him I found him."

Maddie hesitated but finally said, "I didn't take the child.”

“Alright, then let's have an investigation."

“Nikolas! Why are you trying to damage my relationship with Jonathan? Is it because you can't be with me, you want to destroy me?"

Nikolas chuckled with scorn. "Do you really think I want to destroy you? You've become so ruthless that I hardly know you anymore. You used to be kind, rational, elegant, and devoted to advancing the interests of Bates Group in court. Now, look at you. You're not the same person."

"Isn't this all because of Bethany? If she hadn't taken Jonathan away from me, I-"

"If she hadn't, do you think Jonathan would have loved you? Don't fool yourself! I don't have time for this discussion. Since you're not acknowledging it, I'm off to see Jonathan."

Just as he was about to end the call, Maddie exclaimed, "You can't leave! Nikolas, if you do this, I will never forgive you!"

Nikolas' expression darkened. "What are you so scared of?"

“If you bring this to Jonathan, it will only make him think less of me. You can look into it. I have no issue with that, but keep Jonathan out of it." She understood that involving Jonathan would only complicate matters further.

She had intended to deal with the child discreetly, making everything vanish without Leaving any signs, but she hadn't anticipated Nikolas' dogged determination.

It seemed he was now more concerned than Jonathan himself.

"Maddie, are you going to wait until it's too late? I've told you before that if you give me the child now, I'll keep it from Jonathan. That's my promise. Don't hurt the child! But if you refuse, don't hold me responsible for what comes next."

As the tension in their conversation grew, Maddie's voice softened.

Tears began to flow, and she sobbed into the phone.

“How can I prove my innocence to you? I'm not involved with the child's disappearance. Do you want me to end my life? Would you believe me then if I were dead?"

Nikolas was left speechless.

"Alright! I'll just die. It seems you all see me as a burden, think I shouldn't even be here, and blame every disaster on me. Then I might as well die, so you won't have to berate me anymore!"
