Chapter: 518
Previously, Rowan had scrutinized many companies and always uncovered discrepancies. He was convinced Bates Group was no exception.
“Rowan, you should stop focusing on Bates Group."
“But they mistreated you! Mom, I just want to avenge you!"
Bethany was about to respond when her phone suddenly buzzed.
She glanced at the screen.
The number was strikingly familiar.
It was Jonathan.
It was definitely Jonathan's number!
Bethany could never forget that number.
Why would he be calling her now? And how did he even have her number?
“Bethany, why aren't you picking up?" Aimee, in the passenger seat, turned to see her pale face. "Who's calling?"
"Jonathan..."
Jayson hit the brakes hard, stopping the car abruptly.
“what? Who?"
“Jonathan. The phone stopped ringing, the screen showing a missed call."
Jayson kept his eyes on Bethany in the rearview mirror, the air thick with tension.
"Does he suspect something?"
Aimee extended her hand and said, "Hand me the phone. I'll take the call. I'll pretend I don't realize it's him. Plus, your number is listed under my ID, so it makes sense for me to answer."
But Bethany simply stared at the screen, motionless.
Even Nola and Rowan sensed something was amiss with their mom and pulled at her clothes.
Nola blinked. “Mommy... Are you okay?"
Rowan, more observant, took out his phone. “Mommy, is that man bothering you again? I'll get back at him right now!"
"No," Bethany finally responded. "Let me think."
She needed to figure out why Jonathan was calling her, to assess how much he might suspect or know.
