Chapter: 526
Brody fell silent, unsure whether to label his boss as too sentimental or too stubborn.

The door lock yielded smoothly under his touch. As he turned to assist Jonathan, he found him already seated on the steps outside the villa.

Jonathan's elongated shadow stretched desolately under the moonlit sky, casting him in a solitary silhouette.

"Mr. Bates..."

"Brody, I have an idea."

"What is it?"

“If I threatened Bethany with my life, do you think she would come back to me?"

"I'm not sure. I don't know how Bethany feels about you."

“What if I did whatever it took to keep her with me?" After saying this, Jonathan chuckled bitterly. "I'm tired of being a gentleman. I just want her."

Being a gentleman was exhausting. Jonathan no longer wanted to worry about morality or whether Bethany loved him.

He could barely restrain himself; he just wanted to win her back.

Meanwhile, Bethany remained seated on the bus stop bench, not moving an inch.

Uttering those words had drained her strength, leaving her unable to move forward.

She knew her words had pierced Jonathan's heart, but they were divorced, and her mother's death burdened her. He had just announced his marriage and she couldn't give him any hope.

The phone rang repeatedly.

Finally, just as the battery was about to die, Bethany answered the call.

“Bethany, why didn't you pick up? I've been worried sick." The voice on the other end trembled with anxiety.

"I'm okay, Jayson."

“What did Jonathan say to you? Did he find out anything?”

“No. I said some harsh things to him, and he hung up. I don't think he suspects anything."

Jayson sighed deeply. "You regret saying those things to him, don't you?"

Bethany fell silent.

“Bethany, I want you to find happiness. I believe your mother would want that too. How about-"

"No way. I can't ask him to prosecute his parents for murder because of me."
