Chapter: 554
“When you feel ready to call me that, you will." Jonathan disliked forcing things; it wouldn't be sincere.
Even in the past, when he had strategized with Bethany, the ultimate choice was hers. He would never use money or power to force her.
“Aren't you worried I might try to extort money from you? Or what if I'm not even your child?" Rowan tilted his head, letting his doubts flow out.
Jonathan crouched down to meet his eye level.
He pinched Rowan's cheek. "Since you can get into Bates Group's systems, you must realize that money isn't important to me."
Regarding the other question, a look at Rowan's face was answer enough.
Jonathan didn't have any twin brothers, so anyone who looked so much like him must be related.
Even if, against all odds, Rowan wasn't his son, such a striking resemblance would still mean something significant.
However, Jonathan's thoughts suddenly turned to what Maddie had said earlier—that Rowan was her child.
It seemed ridiculous at first, but given his mother's favoritism towards Maddie, it wasn't completely impossible.
“Rowan, would you feel comfortable sharing a little about your mom?"
Jonathan asked cautiously, concerned about causing a negative response.
As expected, Rowan's expression turned cautious. "No way! Mommy said not to tell anyone!"
Jonathan understood that a direct approach wouldn't be effective.
He paused, then offered a smile. "How about we play a game? You can ask me any question, and I'll answer honestly. After that, maybe you could tell me your mom's last name."
Rowan shook his head firmly. "No way!"
Jonathan gave a light shrug. "Okay, no pressure."
He was about to get up when Rowan suddenly reached out and stopped him. "I can't tell you her last name, but I can give you the first letter."
"That works too!" Jonathan quickly agreed, crouching down again.
"What do you want to ask me? Anything."
Rowan pondered seriously, then asked, “Why did you have me and then not look after me?"
Jonathan took a moment before responding earnestly, "I promise, I had no idea you existed."
Rowan seemed taken aback by his response.
“Now, can you share the first letter of your mom's last name?"
