Chapter: 560
Jonathan lifted his brows a bit, a smile tugging at his lips. “That sounds good to me."
Brody nodded with an OK gesture, grinning as he said, “Mr. Bates, you're finally coming out of your shell!"
"I'm talking about work."
“I get it; I really do!"
Bethany ultimately resolved to remain in Odonset.
She also convinced Aimee to bring Nola along, despite the considerable risks involved. As a mother, Bethany had left Rowan overseas for too long and couldn't bear the thought of neglecting him any further.
While Jayson could offer advice, the decision wasn't his to make.
Recognizing her resolve, he had no option but to support her completely.
As dusk turned to darkness, Bethany found herself gazing out of her hotel room window, the streetlights casting shadows on her thoughtful face.
After pondering deeply, she pulled out her phone and called Ryan.
"Hello, Ryan, I need you to find someone to take over my project. I'm stepping down."
“What? Stepping down?" Ryan's voice carried a note of disbelief.
“Bethany, are you sure about this?"
Bethany was known for her commitment, and the notion of her abandoning a project mid-way was beyond Ryan's expectations.
"Yes, I know it's a letdown, but I just can't carry on," Bethany explained, her voice tinged with regret. She was uncertain of her return date, aware that project dynamics could shift rapidly, sometimes in mere hours, and she refused to become a burden.
By resigning now, she hoped Ryan could secure a replacement, thus mitigating any potential setbacks.
“I've already agreed to give you all the time off you need. Why do you feel the need to resign? You promised you'll stay on until we finish the project!"
“Ryan, as someone who leads this company, you should see that stepping down is actually the better choice," Bethany responded, acknowledging his personal reasons for wanting her to stay.
"I just don't get it! And I can't accept it either! Remember, our contract states that you must give a six-month notice if you resign after your promotion to director. You're not the type to break agreements."
"But I'm not in a position to contribute anything valuable to the company at this point."
“You could work remotely. With Colt's assistance, it would all work out. Besides, I'm around; we can handle this," Ryan insisted, his words brooking no argument.
Bethany lifted her hand to her forehead, massaging her temples as a headache began to form.
She knew Ryan's real reasons. He didn't want to lose her from his company, regardless of its impact on the bottom Line.
“Ryan, please think this over. I'm willing to forego all my bonuses for the year."
