Chapter: 574
"Isn't it about doing what you want while keeping the people you care about?"
“Yeah, that makes sense," Jonathan replied.
Brody let out a chuckle.
For Jonathan, this was some new experience that stirred up feelings of pressure and self-doubt. He had never acted so unchivalrously before.
In contrast, Brody felt perfectly fine about it. He thought a CEO should embrace this kind of behavior.
After all, this was what people worked hard for.
When Bethany decided to accept her new position at Bates Group, Jayson expressed strong opposition.
“Bethany, you can't do this!"
"I don't want to either, but I have a contract! How would I manage to break it?"
Bethany had no intention of rejoining Bates Group.
The situation was already complicated, especially after what happened with Rowan. She aimed to steer clear of Jonathan, not run straight towards him.
"I can cover the cost. What's the penalty? I'll pay it," Jayson offered, eager to help.
Bethany looked at him with a heavy sigh. “Jonathan is playing this game to pressure me. The penalty has to be at least a few billion.”
“How can it possibly be that high? This is pure coercion! I'll hire a lawyer to help you sue them," Jayson replied, astonished.
"Let it go. We can't take on someone so powerful," Bethany said, resigned to the situation.
She had considered fighting back and even thought about taking a risk.
The world felt unjust. If Jonathan was determined to make her stay, escape seemed impossible.
Jayson walked anxiously in front of Bethany, his fists tightening and loosening with each step.
“Jayson, there's no need to stress. If he insists I work in his company, then I will. I'll just be more cautious and steer clear of him. I won't get involved with Jonathan again."
"Can't you see?" Jayson's brow furrowed, concern etched in his features. "It's not that I'm scared of you and Jonathan rekindling things. What worries me is that your return will make Jonathan's parents and Maddie view you as a problem all over again!"
Their tactics had always lacked any moral boundaries, much like how they had taken Marie's life.
Jayson couldn't fathom the heartbreak he would endure if he ever received the news of Bethany's death.
The very thought unhinged him.
"I understand you're concerned for me, but I'm left with no other options..."
