Chapter: 591
Luckily, Jonathan didn't linger at the door. He headed straight to the kitchen, giving them a moment alone.
Yet, even with this opportunity, Bethany still acted as if she were a stranger.
"Hello, little boy."
She crouched down and took Rowan's hand as if meeting him for the first time.
Rowan felt really odd seeing his mother act this way. It was amusing.
He glanced towards the kitchen and said helplessly, "Mommy, don't worry. There are no cameras in this house."
Rowan was clever enough to understand what his mother was concerned about.
“Are you sure?" Bethany looked around cautiously, her eyebrows raised.
She was worried that Jonathan might have installed cameras to monitor her.
"Don't worry. I'm certain," Rowan said and tilted his head as he looked at Bethany. "Did you come to take me away?"
"No. Jonathan brought me here to see if we know each other."
"Okay. I'll say I hate you and tell you not to get close to me. That way, he won't bring you here again," Rowan suggested.
Bethany nodded in agreement. "Good idea!"
But then she paused, sensing something was off. “Wait. You seem really comfortable with him!"
Since she had arrived, she hadn't noticed any tension between Rowan and Jonathan that would suggest Rowan was out for revenge.
They appeared to be getting along quite well.
Jonathan had even returned to cook lunch for Rowan, and Rowan didn't seem surprised. It looked like this wasn't their first meal together, as if they had grown accustomed to it.
Rowan hesitated, then confessed sheepishly, “He's an amazing cook! He's also teaching me about computer networks! I won't seek revenge for now."
Bethany frowned and said, “Rowan, do you know how worried we've been about you?"
“Don't worry about me. Look, I'm doing well here!"
Before Bethany could respond, Jonathan emerged from the kitchen.
Suddenly, Rowan exclaimed, "I don't like her! Can you make her leave?"
Jonathan, drying his hands, looked over with a quizzical brow. “Rowan, Ms. Holt is just here for lunch."
"I don't want her here! I won't eat with her!"
