Chapter: 597
Four years...
It had taken her four whole years of slaving away at a job to save enough money to finally reach B7.
She needed him to restore the corrupted surveillance footage to uncover the truth about her mother's death.
She knew this was a one-time chance, lest Maddie and Jonathan's parents catch a whiff of what was going on and destroy all evidence, or worse-silence her once and for all.
Bethany had worked tirelessly to get that reformatted hard drive.
It held the only evidence that could reveal her mother's murderer.
Given the delicacy of the matter, she couldn't even trust Jonathan with it.
The minutes ticked by, and finally, it was time to get off work.
Fearing Jonathan might give her a hard time, Bethany grabbed her bag and left the office without delay.
Jayson was already waiting for her downstairs. Seeing her emerge from the building, he lowered the car window and waved at her.
Clutching the bag with the hard drive close to her chest, Bethany hurried towards Jayson. Her heart raced, her steps quickening with each stride.
Suddenly, a powerful grip seized her shoulders from behind, freezing her in place.
Jayson, still in the car, recognized her assailant instantly. His face twisted with recognition and alarm.
It was Jonathan!
Bethany didn't need to turn around to know. The man's familiar aura alone was enough to send a shiver down her spine.
Fear surged through her, not just for herself but for the precious hard drive nestled in her bag. No matter what, she couldn't afford to lose it.
“Where do you think you're going? You're working overtime today."
Jonathan's voice boomed from above her, cold and authoritative.
Bethany tilted her head slightly, her eyes locking with his piercing gaze.
"I told you, I can't work overtime today."
“Then you're not allowed to leave with him." His tone was steely, brooking no dissent.
Bethany squirmed, desperately trying to free herself from his iron grip.
"Mr. Bates, we're not at the office. After work, I can leave with whoever I want."
As she spoke, she caught sight of Jayson stepping out of the car, determination etched on his face as he approached.
