Chapter: 607
"My son is the smartest!" Jonathan chuckled at Rowan's astuteness and his choice of word-wife. "Rowan, do you know where your sister is now?"
“No, I've always been abroad. Aimee takes care of my sister. Mommy said I look too much like you. That's the reason she didn't let me stay in the country, afraid I'd be taken away."
"Do you miss your sister?"
"Of course!" Rowan's eyes lit up as he began describing his sister.
"She's a bit like Mommy, clumsy but super cute! And she loves candy!"
Candy?
Jonathan remembered the little girl he had met in Westsilver.
The girl was fond of candy, her face chubby like a dumpling and her eyes bright and expressive.
"So she is with Aimee right now." Jonathan sighed. "You'll see her soon."
Maddie felt a pang of jealousy the moment she laid eyes on Ryan.
Why were all the men in Bethany's Life so impressive?
On her way there, Maddie investigated Ryan. Although his background wasn't as affluent as Jonathan's, he was still a strikingly handsome, mixed-race young man with a tall, strong build and an impressive resume.
After years of diligent study and striving for perfection, she believed her looks and abilities were on par with Bethany's. So why hadn't any man pursued her as intensely?
"Ms. Hinchcliffe, hello."
Ryan had booked a private room and the surrounding ones to ensure their conversation stayed private.
Maddie sat down, managing a polite smile, and said, "Hello."
"I've heard a lot about the chief lawyer of Bates Group. I didn't expect to meet you today."
"You don't need to say all that. Since we know why we're here, let's get straight to the point." Maddie's mind was filled with pressing concerns, leaving her little patience for small talk.
Ryan smiled, pulling out his phone to show her a photo.
"This is Bethany's daughter. One of my employees snapped this when she visited our company. She didn't know.”
Maddie studied the photo closely, recognizing not only Bethany's features but traces of Jonathan's as well.
"I want this photo."
"No way." Ryan was here to negotiate a partnership, not to hand out favors. "Our cooperation depends on you not harming Bethany or her daughter."
He intended to win Bethany away from Jonathan, not to harm her.
