"That's her cousin."

“Alright. Anything else?"

Bethany blinked, confused by his question. Was he considering Jayson for a role at Bates Group because he thought he was qualified?

“and... he's a physics professor at a university. His dad owns a supermarket chain. He's an only child," she said, sharing all she knew about Jayson.

Yet, Jonathan's expression darkened. "You seem to know quite a bit about him."

Before Bethany could say anything, he exited the car first.

Although Bethany wasn't great at deciphering thoughts, she could sense that Jonathan was upset. The air was tense, similar to a husband who suspected his wife of infidelity.

Since Jonathan remained silent, Bethany did the same. She knew her place.

After they shopped for groceries and returned home, she cooked while he worked, as was typical.

That night, Jonathan was unexpectedly passionate in bed.

The weekend flew by, and soon it was Bethany's first day at the head office.

Early morning, Bethany dressed in her professional uniform and double -checked that she had everything before leaving.

"Let's go."

In the hallway, Jonathan stood in his suit, his tall frame perfectly tailored, exuding a sense of decorum and class even at home.

Holding her laptop bag, she hesitated. "I can take the subway.”

Being seen exiting the CEO's car would surely stir up gossip.

“My car will be parked somewhere private. Nobody will see us."

“That's not necessary. I need to learn the subway routes!"

“I'd rather not repeat myself." His voice carried an unmistakable edge of authority.

Jonathan seldom used such a definitive tone in private, signaling he had come to a decision.

"Thank you, Mr. Bates," Bethany said.

Upon reaching the Bates Group headquarters, Jonathan headed straight to the meeting room.

Bethany got the impression he was tied up in meetings all day.

With her bag in hand, she went looking for Brody. When she saw him, she realized why his voice was familiar. It was the guy who had previously stopped her when she was trying to enter Jonathan's hotel room to get a contract.
