Chapter: 629
There she was, in bloody, tattered clothes. One could only tell she was still alive by the rising and falling of her chest, as she looked completely lifeless.

Seeing her in such a state completely broke Jonathan.

"I want to get revenge on you so badly, Jonathan. But I just can't do it. I can't bring myself to!" Maddie screamed with her eyes welled up. "And of course, Bethany has everything to do with this. It's because of her that you have no eyes for me! Once I kill her, you'll have no choice but to love me!"

“Don't, Maddie! Don't kill her, please. I promise we'll work this out together. But just let her go, okay?" Jonathan spoke steadily as he tried to calm her down.

He was scared to death that she would end Bethany's life out of madness.

"Work this out?" Maddie's eyes met his, filled with anger, disappointment, and obsession. "Fine, then I want you to kneel and propose to me!"

Even at this moment, Maddie still wanted to marry Jonathan.

From the first time she saw him to all their challenges, and now, as they confronted each other, her desire to be his wife remained, even if it lasted only a day...

Jonathan's expression hardened, his eyes as cold as distant stars, as he calculated his next move.

Spotting his hesitation, Maddie pressed the knife closer to Bethany's neck. "You're reluctant?"

“Ah. Bethany cried out in pain but managed to shake her head at Jonathan. "No... Jonathan, don't.."

“Don't hurt her! I'll do whatever you want!" Upon seeing Bethany's blood, Jonathan could focus on nothing else.

He knelt, his gaze fixed on Maddie. "Is this what you want?"

"I wanted a proposal, not a plea! You haven't said the words yet.”

Maddie was caught in a twisted joy. "Say it! Beg me to marry you!"

Jonathan obliged, his eyes filled with a cold fury. "I beg you, marry me."

Maddie's smile broadened. “Louder. I didn't hear you, and neither did Bethany!"

“I beg you!" Jonathan's voice grew louder.

“Still not loud enough. Come closer," Maddie teased.

As Jonathan started to rise, she stopped him. “No, don't stand. Crawl to me and declare your wish to marry me!"

Bethany barely managed to open her eyes and saw the once formidable man now kneeling on the filthy floor before Maddie.

He glanced at her as if to convey, "Just hold on a bit longer."

Jonathan clenched his jaw and began to crawl towards Maddie.

The bodyguards behind him edged forward, wary of any threat to their employer.
