Chapter: 638
Jayson truly believed Jonathan wouldn't make it.

Later, he intercepted Brody, who was managing the aftermath, to learn which hospital Jonathan had been taken to.

Jayson was aware that Bethany would ask about it upon waking.

But Jonathan's injuries were serious. Even if she stayed all night, she might not get any news.

“Just let me stay here so I can keep him company," Bethany murmured weakly. “He's done so much for me; I should do something too."

Jayson lowered his gaze, noting how thin she had become. Since arriving in Odonset, she had lost even more weight.

Her collarbones were sharply defined, and her bones protruded alarmingly as she bowed her head.

"I've never been able to refuse you."

Jayson sighed deeply. He phoned his friend at Central Hospital to arrange for a coat and some fever medication to be sent over.

Even if she wouldn't return for treatment, she needed to reduce her fever.

At this rate, she was certain to faint here.

Unable to convince her, Jayson remained with Bethany to wait. They waited from nightfall until dawn, the heavy rain ceased, and he smoked an entire pack of cigarettes, yet no news arrived.

Finally, at seven in the morning, a doctor emerged and opened the doors.

He was startled to see Bethany and Jayson.

“What are you doing here?"

Bethany attempted to speak, but no sound emerged.

Fortunately, Jayson was there. He stood and approached, saying, “Hello, I'd Like to inquire about the injured man named Jonathan Bates who was admitted yesterday. How is he?"

The doctor paused, then realized who he was referring to. "You mean the very wealthy young Mr. Bates?"

"Yes!"

"He was sent to another country overnight." The doctor glanced at Bethany, who was as pale as a ghost. "He was too severely injured. That stab wound was fatal. It went through his entire chest; we could do nothing."

Jayson hadn't anticipated Jonathan's departure. He turned to support Bethany, who was struggling to crawl to the doctor's feet.

"Which country?" she asked in a barely audible voice.

"I don't know that."

The doctor exited. Jayson helped Bethany up from the ground.
