Chapter: 637
Suddenly, she clutched her chest in agony, as if a heavy stone pressed down on it, making it hard to breathe. Tears streamed down her face uncontrollably.
"I never wanted to hurt him." She would rather be the one whose life hung by a thread at the moment.
"Yes, I know. Even Jonathan's parents understand that. But despite Maddie's actions, the Bates family still hasn't embraced you."
Jayson couldn't care less about Maddie's fate. His only aim was to convince Bethany to leave and stop punishing herself.
"Jayson, let me stay here and wait for him. I'll leave once I know he's safe."
Bethany was utterly drained, both in body and spirit. Only the hope of seeing Jonathan kept her going.
Jayson, holding the umbrella over her, reached out to lift her. But as soon as his hand touched Bethany's skin, he recoiled at her searing heat.
"You've got a fever! Bethany, come back with me!"
She had just undergone surgery, her body marred with wounds. Now, drenched in rain for so long, it was a miracle she hadn't collapsed already.
"No, I'm not leaving." Bethany's face was ghostly pale, her voice quivering, but the word “no” was crystal clear. "He hasn't woken up yet. I need to be with him."
Jayson was frantic, "Bethany! Are you trying to harm yourself? If you don't care about yourself, at least think about your children. Nola and Rowan need you. They're Jonathan's kids too!"
At the mention of Nola and Rowan, Bethany's eyes moved slightly.
"Is Nola okay?" she asked.
"She's alright! Maddie didn't harm her, and Aimee protected her throughout," Jayson replied.
“What about Aimee?"
Jayson pressed his thin lips together, not answering right away.
Bethany's heart tightened. She grabbed his sleeve and asked, "Is Aimee badly hurt? Did Maddie hurt her?"
As Bethany remembered what Maddie had intended to do to her, fear surged through her.
She feared Aimee would suffer those torments.
"She's fine! Don't worry. Aimee's parents have taken her home to care for her," Jayson quickly reassured her. “You're the most seriously injured one here, Bethany. Come back with me. You don't know how long you'll have to wait here."
Upon arriving at the crime scene, Jayson found Jonathan in a deep coma, being loaded into an ambulance, while Maddie had been taken away too.
Entering the warehouse, he was met with the stench of blood.
Following the scent, he discovered a large pool of blood on the floor.
It was terrifying.
