Chapter: 645
When did he get so overprotective?

Jayson smiled, then approached Bethany's bedside and whispered, “Bethany, I'm going to find a nearby hotel to rest for a bit. You spend some time with Aimee and Rowan, and I'll be back after a nap."

Bethany nodded and thanked him in a raspy voice.

But those were the last words Jayson wanted to hear. Those words painfully reminded him that he would always be an outsider.

Outside the operating room, the tense vigil persisted.

A single door divided two entirely different realities.

Overwhelmed by fatigue, Godfrey summoned a doctor to administer a nutrient injection, just enough to keep him going.

He had already sent his wife to rest, mainly because he couldn't stand being irritated by her presence anymore.

He never thought his generally smooth life would face such trials in his later years.

The doctor had emerged several times to update them on Jonathan's critical condition, showing no signs of improvement. If this persisted, it could really end badly.

Godfrey felt a growing panic, although he kept a composed exterior.

After much thought, he prepared for both possible outcomes and instructed his team, “Bring Bethany's two children here.”

This way, if the worst were to happen, at least the Bates family would have successors.

He certainly couldn't leave the children with Bethany. After all, they were the future heirs to the Bates family fortune. Bethany's background made her unsuitable to raise them.

Should her background become public in the future, it could tarnish the Bates family's reputation.

"Understood, Mr. Bates."

"Also, draw up a check for fifty million for Bethany, and then, by whatever means necessary, have her sign an agreement relinquishing her custody rights."

After ending the call, Godfrey exhaled deeply, his hand falling limply to his side. For the first time, he truly understood the feeling of helplessness.

No amount of money could fix this situation. At his age, he was facing the agony of potentially losing his son at any moment.

Suddenly, the doors to the operating room swung open.

This time, the doctor emerged, his face alight with excitement.

"It worked! Just now his heart stopped repeatedly, and in a last-ditch effort, I told him Bethany was still waiting for him. Incredibly, it actually worked!"

“How's Jonathan now?" Godfrey asked.

“His numbers are finally looking up. He's fighting hard! If he pulls through today, he'll make it," replied the doctor.
