Chapter: 665
“There's no need for that. I'll get Nikolas to help out. You're not familiar with this area." Jonathan's voice was weary, lacking its usual vigor due to his severe injuries.
"Nikolas? Are you sure he can handle it?" Bethany frowned, skeptical.
Nikolas was known as a playboy from a wealthy family, and he didn't have a good opinion of her. She was concerned he might not treat Aimee well.
"Don't worry." Jonathan reassured her and urged her to call Nikolas using his phone.
Soon enough, the call connected. “Jonathan! You're up to making calls now?"
"Hmm. I'm fine. Where are you?"
"I'm having dinner with some ungrateful woman! I'll swing by after dinner."
Jonathan and Bethany exchanged a glance. "Is that Aimee?"
"Who else? This woman has been nothing but trouble, cursing me nonstop. And here I am, waiting on her hand and foot. Poor me!"
Bethany let out a relieved sigh after enduring Nikolas' litany of grievances.
Despite his grumbling, it was clear he was still taking care of Aimee.
Once the call ended, Bethany set the phone aside, grabbed a towel, and began gently wiping Jonathan's skin, cautious not to cause any discomfort.
The doctor had mentioned it wasn't necessary, but Bethany knew Jonathan too well. He was particular about cleanliness; skipping even one day's shower used to make him edgy, and now he hadn't showered in days.
Noticing the tender care in Bethany's lowered gaze, Jonathan couldn't help but smile.
It was as if they had never spent a moment apart over all these years.
It felt like they had been together forever, like an old married couple.
Jonathan wished he could hold on to this moment, keeping Bethany with him always.
Bethany kept cleaning his body, but then she remembered the bandage on Nikolas’ head. "Nikolas got hurt?" she asked, concern in her voice.
“Yeah. He probably found out something about Maddie and got into a car accident on his way to tell me."
Bethany looked at Jonathan, hesitating before she asked, "Was it Maddie?"
"It was."
"She's really lost it," Bethany murmured. “She'd do anything for you, and Nikolas has always been so kind to her."
Jonathan picked up on her tone and raised an eyebrow. "Are you jealous?"
“I'm not!" Bethany quickly responded, but her face turned bright red.
