Chapter: 667
Jonathan's expression soured at the mention of Maddie's name, his forehead creasing deeply. "My parents say she's gone off the rails.”
"Yeah! She's always yelling in that place they've got her. Your father mentioned she won't touch the food they offer, insisting on eating dirt straight from the ground."
"Maddie is quite the actress. Perhaps she's using this to dodge responsibility."
Jonathan was skeptical.
As a successful businessman, sharpness was critical. He maintained a vigilant and suspicious stance towards everyone-except Bethany.
“Looking back, I was truly naive. I actually believed she was gentle and kind-hearted!" Nikolas lamented, wishing he could go back in time and give himself a good shake. “Maddie told me you only married Bethany to spite her because they resemble each other. I actually fell for that."
It made sense since Maddie and Bethany did bear a_ striking resemblance.
The rationale was sound.
At this, Bethany tensed up, and the thought of her blood connection to Maddie made her feel sick.
“You guys keep talking, I'm stepping out for a bit," she announced, hoping her discomfort went unnoticed, especially by Jonathan, who might worry.
Aimee, finding the situation dull, chimed in, "I'll come with you!"
Jonathan watched her rush out and frowned slightly. "She doesn't Look well. Have a doctor check on her."
"Don't worry. With Aimee by her side, Bethany will be fine! Your father arranged a doctor to treat her legs tomorrow. Have your parents come around to accepting Bethany after this ordeal?"
Nikolas was stunned to find Bethany in the hospital.
Knowing Jonathan's parents, he was aware they would typically scorn her background. Yet, they had allowed her to tend to Jonathan and even provided them some privacy.
It was indeed a revelation!
“I think she's hiding something," Jonathan muttered, his voice tinged with suspicion.
He was no optimist, especially when it came to deciphering the behaviors of those close to him. Understanding his parents' complex temperaments had given him a certain insight, an awareness that things were often not as they seemed.
Yet, despite his doubts, he knew Bethany wouldn't offer any revelations. Her upbringing, shaded by a lack of trust, meant she always kept part of herself hidden, never fully committing to openness.
As evening crept over the landscape, Aimee wheeled Bethany out of the hospital.
The night began to settle in, the surroundings hushed except for the rustling of the trees neatly Lining the path.
Silence stretched between them until Aimee, unable to contain her concern any longer, broke it. "Bethany, please call my cousin. He's really worried about you."
Stopping the wheelchair, Bethany responded in a low voice, “Please call him for me. I don't know how to face him."
Jayson's love had always been an overwhelming presence in her life, making Bethany uneasy.
