Chapter: 686
As their father, he valued Bethany greatly and felt sympathy for her.
“Absurd!" Godfrey was on the verge of scolding, but when he saw his son's condition, he held back. “Jonathan, you should understand what's important to me! If you really care for the children, they need to stay with us. Otherwise, who knows how Bethany might raise them!"
“Bethany has never taught them to resent the Bates family, so you don't have to feel guilty," Jonathan retorted.
“Why would I feel guilty? We didn't even know about the children's existence." Godfrey inhaled deeply. "Yes, I acknowledge your mother made some mistakes, and I never expected Maddie to act so irresponsibly. We won't force you to marry Maddie, but we won't accept Bethany either.”
"Why?" Jonathan clenched his teeth, attempting to sit up.
He failed multiple times, hindered by the monitoring wires, so he tore them off.
Instantly, the machines began to buzz loudly.
Godfrey rushed over and asked, “What are you doing? Have you lost your mind?"
Jonathan appeared not to hear his father, staring back with intense eyes, blood oozing from his wound, yet he showed no sign of pain.
“Why can't you accept Bethany?" he demanded.
"We just can't! Now, lie back down!" Godfrey, normally calm, was visibly agitated and began calling for help. "Samira, Samira! Come quickly, he's bleeding!"
Samira was engaged in a medical journal in her office when the commotion caught her attention, and she hurried out. "What's going on?"
"Quick! Jonathan yanked out the wires, and he's bleeding!"
Samira's brow furrowed as she rushed to the room.
“Jonathan, what are you doing?" She reached out to inspect Jonathan's wound.
But he dodged her. "No need, I'm alright."
"You're losing a lot of blood. How can you say you're alright?"
Samira had never witnessed such disregard for one's own well-being.
“Where is Bethany?"
Jonathan looked up at her and asked, “Why do you need her?"
“Because you only behave when she's around!" Samira replied.
"Jonathan, either listen to me now or I'll bring Bethany in to handle this!"
Jonathan was at a loss for words.
"I mean it!" She was already dialing on her phone.
