Chapter: 687
Jonathan's expression softened slightly. “Don't tell her!"

Samira pointed at Jonathan's wound and instructed firmly, “Lie down. I need to see where the bleeding is coming from. You wouldn't want Bethany to see you like this when she returns, would you?"

Godfrey had been right about one thing. Bethany was indeed Jonathan's vulnerability, and now Samira was leveraging that.

Seeing his son comply, albeit reluctantly, Godfrey felt a mix of relief and irritation. "You're neglecting your health because of her?"

"In her efforts to reach me, Bethany has endured much because of your actions. Didn't that ever make you feel remorseful?" Jonathan countered, his frustration evident.

"She is not a Bates!" Godfrey retorted sharply.

Jonathan scoffed. "Being a Bates doesn't make us better than anyone else."

Godfrey, stunned by his son's defiance, was left nearly speechless with anger.

Amid the escalating tension, Samira, while tending to Jonathan's wound, intervened. "Please, Godfrey, calm down. Arguing isn't going to help. He needs to rest and stay calm; agitation will only worsen his condition."

"He started this argument!" Godfrey protested.

“Why don't you step out for a while? That way, there won't be any arguments," Samira suggested practically as she disinfected and bandaged Jonathan's wound. The broken monitors had to be removed first.

Once she finished, Samira wanted a private word with Godfrey to urge him not to provoke Jonathan constantly. But as they headed towards the door, Jonathan called out to her, “Don't tell Bethany about any of this."

"You know she'll worry?" Samira sighed before leading Godfrey out of the room, leaving Jonathan to rest.

After guiding Godfrey to her office, Samira offered him a cup of coffee and attempted to ease the tension with a smile. “Godfrey, please, let's not harbor anger. There's no need for conflict between father and son. Just try speaking with him patiently.”

"I can't! It's been so long, and he still refuses to see reason! He's adamant about marrying Bethany," Godfrey fumed.

Caught off guard, Samira replied, “But hasn't he already..."

“We won't accept Bethany!" Godfrey slammed his fist on the table, his anger palpable. “I'd rather sever ties with my own son than accept Bethany as my daughter-in-law! Jonathan's obsession with her is now affecting his health. As his father, how can I stand by and not intervene?"

As Godfrey's face reddened with fury, Samira quickly interjected, hoping to prevent him from worsening his health.

“Even if you disagree, you need to discuss this calmly! Both you and your wife must manage your health-I've seen your medical reports. Avoid getting too worked up."

“I wish I could be calmer! My demands are simple. Bethany cannot marry into the Bates family."

“Why not?" Samira asked, though she suspected the reasons might involve traditional family dynamics or disparities in background.

"Who does she think she is? Do you think she's suitable for our family?" Godfrey challenged.

Samira found herself at a loss for words.

“Samira, I'm not being unreasonable. You know how it is in families like ours. If you wanted to marry someone ordinary, your parents wouldn't approve either!"
