Ryan's ego couldn't swallow this bitter pill. He hadn't even done anything, and yet, he lost his chance to be with Bethany. He'd mapped out every move, counting on Maddie to play her part.
As Ryan trudged home, defeat weighing heavily on his shoulders, he spotted his secretary at his doorstep.
Alarm bells started ringing in his head.
Ryan stepped out of the car and approached, asking, “What's the matter?"
The secretary, fighting back tears, stammered, "I couldn't reach you by phone, so I rushed here. It's a catastrophe. Bates Group ordered Goldwald Company's stocks to nosedive, then out of the blue, announced its closure and dissolution."
Ryan's jaw hit the floor.
"The stocks you hold have plummeted in value, not even worth a tenth of their former worth!" Ryan's years of hard work had crumbled into worthless digits overnight.
Jonathan had struck hard, hitting where it hurt the most, without mercy.
"Mr. Blakely, what should we do?"
Ryan's fists clenched, his anger threatening to boil over.
But as quickly as it came, it subsided.
He wouldn't make the same mistake as Maddie, putting all his eggs in one basket. There had to be a way to turn the tables if he played his cards right.
Patience was key-the game was far from over.
With Jonathan hospitalized, much of the workload had fallen to his secretary, Brody.
This unexpected lull gave Jonathan a rare opportunity to mentor Bethany personally.
"Sometimes, I feel like I've done exhaustive research, yet there are still so many loopholes. Is there a way to ensure the other party doesn't dare deceive us?" Bethany scrutinized the contracts on his computer, hunting for patterns.
A sly smile played on Jonathan's lips. "Would you like to find out?"
“OF course!"
Jonathan's smile widened. "And what's in it for me?"
Bethany looked into Jonathan's smiling eyes, a sense of exasperation settling over her.
"What do you want?"
If this continued, Bethany doubted she'd make it out of this hospital alive.
“You know exactly what I want."
“You said we would only do it once today!"
