Chapter: 72
Bethany spent the remainder of the evening engaging with the business partners and didn't depart from SNS until night had fallen.
On her journey back to the hotel, she felt compelled to ask Jonathan, “Brody is the backbone of this project. Is it fair for me to receive the credit?"
She had recently begun her role at the headquarters and was cautious not to upset anyone, aware that it could impact her prospects.
“Brody is juggling many projects. He isn't concerned with this one,"
Jonathan explained, massaging his temples, visibly exhausted from a day filled with social obligations.
“Whether he cares or not isn't the point. It's not fair for me to take credit," Bethany said firmly.
"Bethany," Jonathan said, his voice taking on a grave tone. “Everyone here at headquarters, from senior executives to entry-level staff, boasts a distinguished resume. You need valuable experience if you hope to remain with us."
This was the only way she could prevent doubts about her capabilities.
“If that's how it is, I'd rather not stay at the head office. I'll return to Ensson Corporation after this project ends." Bethany knew she would feel remorseful if she accepted credit for something that wasn't hers. The guilt would linger in her thoughts.
Jonathan's expression turned to a frown, and he was silent for a moment before responding, "I intended to give you this project from the beginning. Brody is aware of this."
"What?" Bethany exclaimed in surprise.
"You don't need to question my decision. I've made it clear that our personal relationship won't influence how I treat you at work. I believe in your capability to handle this project. However, since you're still learning the ropes, Brody will help you."
Whenever Bethany looked at Jonathan, she felt utterly puzzled by him.
He had once flatly rejected her application, yet now he presented her with a significant opportunity.
Bethany grew quiet, and Jonathan observed her closely.
"Do you doubt your abilities?" he inquired.
"Thank you for believing in me, Mr. Bates. I'll give it my all to ensure this project succeeds."
Unable to decipher Jonathan's motives, Bethany decided to accept it.
The chance lay before her, and regardless of his intentions, it presented a beneficial opportunity.
If the project succeeded, she wouldn't have to stress over her mother's medical bills, and she could repay Jonathan within a year.
"Stop at the next corner," Jonathan directed. The driver acknowledged this and brought the car to a halt promptly.
It was then that Bethany realized they were near their old middle school.
"Would you like to take a walk?" Jonathan proposed, arching an eyebrow.
Bethany nodded. "Sure."
