Chapter: 756
Just then, a man's voice came through the phone. "Bethany, come clean my body for me."
Jayson knew Jonathan said that on purpose.
"Um... Jayson..." Bethany's voice wavered, filled with hesitation.
He offered a reassuring smile. "Go ahead! He's a patient, so take good care of him. I'll wait for you to come back."
“Okay, bye, Jayson!"
After ending the call, Jayson looked to the sky.
The wind in Odonset had been unusually fierce today, causing his heart to twinge with pain. Instinctively, he grasped his chest, took a deep breath to steady himself, and began walking back.
The pain was a good sign. It meant he was still very much alive.
Back in the hospital room, Bethany hung up and faced Jonathan.
Jonathan cocked an eyebrow and smirked. “What's up?"
"You said you wanted me to clean your body, right? I'm ready to help,”
Bethany said, a mix of exasperation and amusement in her tone.
"Didn't you call it a form of torture last time? One phone call to Jayson and you've changed your mind?"
Jonathan was not annoyed. He reclined against the bed with a smile, his collar open to reveal the wound beneath. The first two buttons were undone, exposing his muscular chest and sharply defined collarbones-an aura of mystery and allure surrounding him.
"I haven't changed my mind. Listening to you talk on the phone with Jayson is more torturous than you wiping my body."
“Without Jayson's support over the years, I might never have had the chance to see you again."
She knew all too well the struggle of balancing work and taking care of her children. It was unlikely she could have risen to become an executive at Goldwald Company under such circumstances.
Bethany was determined never to forget the assistance she received from Aimee and Jayson. Otherwise, she would be heartless.
“I understand." Jonathan acknowledged, aware of how crucial Jayson was to Bethany. "But that doesn't ease my jealousy."
"How childish can you be?" Bethany chided.
She was amused that the president of Bates Group, usually so composed, could admit to such jealousy.
She wished she could capture this moment-Jonathan looking so carefree and unguarded-and share it on Bates Group's website for all to see.
"I'm only like this around you," Jonathan confessed.
"Yeah." Bethany sighed. "So, should I fetch some water to clean your body?"
