Chapter: 76
Brody added unexpectedly. “Managing a major project Like this could push your career towards a directorship at an investment bank. If you ever decide to move on from Bates Group, you'll be highly sought after."
"I'm not planning to leave Bates Group."
"That's understandable. I've been working for Mr. Bates for quite some time, and it's rare to see him take someone under his wing like this," Brody said, his eyebrows lifted. "Besides Maddie, you're the only other person."
Hearing Maddie's name brought a twinge of discomfort to Bethany.
"However, your situations are distinct. Maddie has been a significant asset to the company. It's only natural for Mr. Bates to pay attention to her."
As they ate, Bethany casually brought up another topic, saying, "Did you know that Mr. Bates and Maddie have been acquaintances for quite some time?"
"They've known each other for a while, but that's all I know," Brody answered.
"Okay."
“By the way, you seem to have a good rapport with Jonathan, right? Last time in Degend, when you visited Mr. Bates, he was just done with a meeting and needed some rest. Yet, when he heard your voice, he invited you in," Brody remarked. Jonathan usually didn't meet with anyone at that time.
Bethany felt a touch of embarrassment as she remembered the moment in Degend. "Well... Jonathan and I weren't just classmates. We also sat next to each other."
"Oh! Now I remember! You were the one who stayed in Room 1501 during that business trip."
Bethany remained silent.
Brody exclaimed, "I knew it. Bethany, no wonder you name sounded so familiar."
Bethany realized this conversation was heading into dangerous territory. Any deeper questions from Brody might expose the wild events of the evening.
She preferred to keep her agreement with Jonathan a secret. It seemed best for everyone to believe his kindness stemmed merely from their past as classmates.
She decided to change the topic. "Hey, Brody, look at their trademark patent documents..."
Bates Group didn't engage in charity just for show.
Jonathan personally oversaw the list of every group of underprivileged students he helped, verified their circumstances, and discreetly sent teams to check if other needy families hadn't been included.
If parents struggled with serious illnesses, Jonathan ensured they got extra support to keep their children in school despite financial struggles.
By the end of the day, he was noticeably tired.
As he got into the car to return to Brokdon, Jonathan called Bethany.
“Hello? Mr. Bates."
Jonathan knew that Brody was with Bethany.
"I need the due diligence report you prepared today. Bring it to me tonight."
