Chapter: 77
"Okay."
After hanging up, Jonathan massaged his temples. Then, Nikolas called.
"You left everything and dashed off to Brokdon! How's it going? Did she break down in tears when she realized what you've done for her?"
"She'll never find out."
Jonathan didn't follow Bethany into the restaurant near the school gate because he was worried the owner might recognize him as the boy who had paid them off.
At times, Jonathan felt absurd. Wasn't his caution even greater compared to Bethany's careful approach?
“Well, truly honorable. So, when are you heading back? I'm nearly done here. Let's grab Maddie and go all out-no going home until we've had our fill!"
"Dinner sounds good, but I'll pass on the drinks.”
“Huh, remember how you got yourself drunk before?"
Jonathan cracked a smile. "I've actually never been drunk."
Nikolas was at a loss for words.
The car arrived at the hotel, and Jonathan headed to his suite, still in his coat. He noticed the solitude in the room.
Jonathan knew Bethany had arranged a separate room to avoid raising Brody's suspicions before their trip. She was likely in her own room by now.
Jonathan picked up his phone and sent a text. Shortly after, he heard a stealthy knock at the door.
Opening it, Jonathan noticed the documents in Bethany's hands. "You actually brought the summary."
"I was worried Brody might come looking for you."
Jonathan's lips curled slightly as he began to undo his shirt, revealing his well-built frame.
Caught by surprise, Bethany's face turned red, and she looked away.
“Hey, are you about to take a shower?"
Jonathan's laughter filled the air as he stooped to pull a fresh set of pajamas from his suitcase.
Jonathan's hands searched inside for a moment. "You only brought one box?"
"What?"
"This." Jonathan walked over to the nightstand and rattled the empty box, its contents gone.
"Oh..."
