Chapter: 761
She glanced at the caller ID and saw it was Nikolas.
She handed the phone to Jonathan. "It's Nikolas."
Jonathan pressed the answer button, and Nikolas disinterested, muffled voice came through.
"Aimee has a boyfriend! I've been fooled!"
Jonathan and Bethany exchanged glances. She felt odd, while he asked, "What are you talking about?"
“Aimee has a boyfriend! He even showed up at the airport to pick her up. She's spending the night at his place!" Nikolas blurted out, his voice thick with frustration.
"You're back?"
Nikolas had dashed off earlier, and no one was sure if he had managed to catch up with Aimee at the airport.
Yet now, he seemed to know intricate details about her arrival-right down to who had picked her up.
"Yes, I caught the same flight as her. I planned to have a calm conversation with her, but she ended up leaving with another man!"
Nikolas' voice carried a hint of betrayal, as if he had been cheated by his girlfriend.
Upon hearing this, Bethany pieced everything together.
How could Aimee have a boyfriend? She hadn't been involved with anyone for many years. For the past four years, she had devoted herself to helping Bethany care for Nola and occasionally took on some freelance design work, which she completed from home. The thought of Aimee having a man in her life seemed almost unimaginable.
"That's her cousin." Bethany wanted to ensure Aimee wasn't misunderstood, so she clarified the situation.
“\hat?" Nikolas’ voice rose sharply. After a pause, he exclaimed, “Jonathan! Did you put me on speaker again?"
Bethany scoffed, "Nobody wants to overhear your rambling. I'm busy drying his hair."
“Hold on, what did you say? He's Aimee's cousin?"
Ignoring Nikolas, Bethany continued to dry Jonathan's hair.
It was clear she wasn't interested in playing matchmaker for Aimee and Nikolas. Jonathan, noticing Bethany's lack of interest, felt compelled to intervene. He cleared his throat and said, "Yes, Jayson just called. He's picked up Aimee."
The line went silent for a moment.
Nikolas remained quiet, lost in thought.
Just as Jonathan was about to end the call, Nikolas finally spoke up.
“Jonathan, could you ask Bethany for Aimee's phone number?"
"No."
