Chapter: 786
“So, you agreed to give them the kids willingly?"

Bethany pursed her lips, nodding slightly. “Yes, your father suggested it, but I considered it carefully and agreed. The children will have a better life with them."

“What about me?" Jonathan asked.

Bethany remained silent.

"Have you thought about what this means for us?" he continued.

She didn't reply, her silence a clear indicator of her intentions to distance herself from him.

Jonathan saw through it.

Despite her happiness in his presence, she was pulling away. But why?

Why did she refuse to consider remarrying him?

"Of course I've thought about you!" Bethany said, aiming to lighten the mood. "Like right now, I think you should take a_ shower. Otherwise, the smell of sweat might just knock you out."

"Bethany!"

“ALL right." Bethany took Jonathan's hand, her voice softening.

"Could you give me some time? A month, perhaps? I'll have my answer for you then. You'll need to stay here at least that long. I promise to have an answer for you before you leave the hospital."

Jonathan remained silent.

"I really need to think this through, right? We've been apart for so many years. You may not have changed, but I certainly have. After everything that's happened, it wouldn't be right to rush into a decision about marriage." With a smile, Bethany added, “And you, you should take some time too-to figure out if it's really me you love, or if you're just clinging to the past."

Jonathan's laughter broke the tension, though it carried a hint of sadness. “Do you really think I'm just stuck in the past?"

"Yes, it's quite possible! Maybe you're drawn to me because you never got over your teenage crush. It could be an obsession now."

Jonathan finally let Bethany go and propped himself up on his elbows.

Bethany sighed and circled her arms around his waist, saying, "I didn't reject you. I need time to think about it. Since when did you become so bossy?”

“Apart from you, who else do I discuss things with?"

In his professional life, he was a dedicated business tycoon, and privately, he was the reserved and noble man, who never felt the need to seek others’ opinions.

When it came to Bethany, he respected her opinions.

She smiled, resting her cheek against his back. "I know you care about me."

"You're taking advantage of how lenient I've been with you."
