Chapter: 79
She wasn't trying to be dismissive, but she needed to avoid any further exchanges with other men, no matter their intentions.
This was not only due to her agreement with Jonathan but also because of her own situation. How could she consider romantic involvement?
No matter how wealthy a man was, she felt she couldn't expect any special favors. She was not in a position to seek help for her mother's medical needs from anyone.
After responding to Jayson, Bethany hesitated, then felt a presence behind her.
“Are you finished with your work?" she inquired.
Jonathan stood in a bathrobe, his dark eyes intensely focused on her.
Bethany feared that Jonathan might have seen her messaging Jayson.
She wanted to clarify the situation but hesitated. What if Jonathan wasn't bothered by it? She might just embarrass herself.
"Yes." His voice was cool and emotionless. "Did you get the condoms?"
Feeling awkward, Bethany did not discuss it and simply handed him the bag.
Jonathan rifled through the snacks until he found what he was looking for.
“There are still three days left on our business trip," he noted.
Bethany was confused and asked, “What do you mean?"
“It's not enough. Will you need to buy more tomorrow?"
Blushing, Bethany averted her gaze and murmured, “We don't have to..."
Noticing her discomfort, Jonathan raised an eyebrow. “Bethany, this isn't the right time for us to have a baby."
What?
She was taken aback.
Why was he suddenly bringing up having a baby?
"That's not what I meant!"
Had he misunderstood her, thinking she was hinting at something?
Bethany wasn't sure if Jonathan was too tired or simply didn't want to buy more tomorrow. That night, they made love only once.
Yet, Bethany still felt worn out.
After his bath, Jonathan cuddled behind her and wrapped his arm around her waist. He was exhausted and quickly drifted off to sleep.
