Chapter: 817
Unfortunately, they were nearly at the airport.
"Still thinking about someone else?" he asked.
Bethany looked at him and asked, "Since when did you become so bold?"
"If I weren't bold, you wouldn't be here with me now." Jonathan scooped her up onto his lap. “Bethany, don't leave me. I'm not sure what I'd become without you.
Bethany remained mute, her silence heavy with unspoken words.
Jonathan didn't press for an answer. Perhaps he already knew deep down what lay in her heart.
Even if Bethany hadn't asked Aimee to spill the beans, Jayson knew this day would inevitably come knocking.
After all, the children weren't his flesh and blood, so Jonathan couldn't let him play father forever.
The plane carrying Bethany and Jonathan would reach the Odonset Airport in a few hours. The sight of the two children in the living room, dressed to the nines and eager to welcome Bethany and Jonathan home with Aimee, stirred something deep within Jayson.
Aimee was playing with the kids when she caught a glimpse of Jayson's forlorn expression.
"You two keep playing. I need to have a word with Jayson," she said, gently patting Nola's head before approaching him. “Jayson, are you alright?"
Jayson forced a smile, the corners of his mouth barely lifting. “If I said yes, would you believe me?"
“Don't worry, Jayson! Bethany will be back in no more than twenty days. Once B7 restores the surveillance footage, Bethany will sue Jonathan's mother and Maddie."
In theory, as a rival in matters of the heart, this news should have been music to Jayson's ears.
Instead, unease gnawed at his heart like a relentless tide.
“Bethany will be in danger," he muttered.
"I know, I told her! While I was in Wesden, I desperately wanted to persuade her to reconsider or let it go. With Jonathan in her corner, even his parents can't harm her."
Jayson inhaled deeply, cutting her off. “Bethany won't relent. Her mother's death was so sudden, so unjust. Her mother was Bethany's sole family since childhood."
Bethany had juggled part-time jobs and a grueling life as a student, scraping by to save money for her mother's treatment.
Just as her mother was on the brink of recovery after surgery, the cruel news of her death struck Bethany down.
No one could bear such a devastating blow.
Her mother's death was an unforgivable injustice.
Aimee retorted, "But she can't let hatred consume the rest of her life."
Jayson fixed her with a steely gaze, speaking each word with gravity.
