Chapter: 834
Clasping his hand, Bethany said, "I'm just worried you two might clash."
She understood Jayson well. Despite his usual calm and humility, he had a temper. And he must be in a bad mood today. Seeing Jonathan would irritate him. Their encounter was bound to be tense.
Jayson and Jonathan didn't balance in power.
“If we do clash, who are you more worried about getting hurt?"
Jonathan had tried not to ask, yet the question escaped him.
Jayson was like a constant irritant to him. It felt uncomfortable even to think about him.
"Obviously, you! You're still recovering from your injuries."
At this, Jonathan arched an eyebrow and challenged, "Do you think I can't handle him?"
"Of course you can!" Bethany quickly assured him. “I have no doubts about your strength. You're taller, but you're still dealing with that serious injury!"
“Would it upset you if I got hurt?"
“Certainly,” Bethany replied with an edge. She seized his arm, her tone insistent. “I'll go with you! It isn't just you who owes him thanks. I do too."
Avoiding the issue wouldn't resolve anything. Bethany knew she had to keep urging Jayson to let go and consider starting a new relationship.
Jonathan's expression softened slightly as he gazed at her, reassured when he saw no trace of romantic feelings for Jayson in her eyes.
"Alright, we'll go together."
Once they were seated in the car Brody had arranged, Bethany dialed Jayson's number.
“Jayson, we're on my way to pick up the kids’ stuff."
“Alright.” Jayson's even-toned reply came from the other end. “Is Aimee coming along?"
"She's not. She went back to her parents’ house."
“Okay. There was a brief silence before Jayson spoke again. “So, who's with you?"
Bethany glanced at Jonathan, catching his gaze as she did.
Even during the phone call, she could sense his hostility. It was clear he wasn't interested in thanking Jayson.
"I'm with Jonathan," she answered, her voice tense.
Bethany decided to be honest with Jayson, hoping to prepare him mentally. She also wanted to avoid upsetting Jonathan.
Jonathan was particularly sensitive when it came to Jayson.
