Chapter: 835
The car drove towards Jayson's residence. The air around them was tense, and Bethany struggled to find a suitable topic to break the silence.
As they neared their destination, Jonathan broke the quiet. "Don't worry. I said I wouldn't have a conflict with him He paused before adding, "For the sake of our children."
"That's good." Bethany felt a wave of relief and managed a smile.
“Can you try to see Jayson as a brother to me?"
"I can, But can he see you as a sister?"
Jonathan's response was measured, but his hostility remained palpable.
Bethany chose to stay quiet and decided to wait and see how things would unfold.
The car came to a stop in front of Jayson's residence. Jonathan stepped out and went to the trunk to retrieve a paper bag.
Bethany followed, curious about its contents.
Before she could ask, Jayson emerged from the house, dressed in black pajamas, and walked towards them.
“Bethany, you've lost weight," Jayson said, his concern evident.
Jonathan's expression darkened, and he replied sharply, "She hasn't."
Was Jayson suggesting he wasn't taking good care of his woman? That was absurd.
"Guys..." Bethany was caught off guard by the immediate tension.
Fortunately, Jayson seemed uninterested in escalating the argument.
With a subtle smile, he said, "Perhaps I'm mistaken. Please, come in and we can talk."
He turned and headed back inside. Bethany gently pulled Jonathan, signaling him to ease up on the jealousy. It was too obvious!
Reluctantly, Jonathan followed Bethany inside.
“Please, have a seat." Jayson proceeded to pour water for them.
Jonathan glanced around the room, taking in his surroundings.
The house was modest, around 100 square meters, decorated in a simple, understated style. Children's toys were scattered throughout, yet the space was clean and orderly.
After they sat down, Jayson stood up and retrieved a large bag filled with Nola and Rowan's toys.
"These are all their favorite toys. There are more, but I imagine Mr. Bates will just buy new ones, so you don't need to take them all."
"Yes." Jonathan nodded, then set down the paper bag he had brought.
