Chapter: 855
Taken aback, Bethany queried, "Can you really do that?"
"You doubt my skills?"
"No." Bethany quickly shook her head.
B7 observed Bethany, noticing her shiver in the cool night breeze. He gestured dismissively and said, “Go on back now. I've got all I need.”
He turned and walked away, not Looking back.
As she watched him disappear, Bethany tiptoed back to East Shade Bay.
Upon entering, she saw Jonathan sitting on the sofa.
Jonathan was dressed in a dark robe, his long legs crossed, looking as if he had been seated there for some time.
Bethany felt no guilt, but she preferred not to tell Jonathan the exact reason she had gone to meet B7.
“Why are you awake? Did I wake you?" she asked.
She changed her shoes and entered the living room.
Jonathan didn't press Bethany for details but motioned for her to come closer and enveloped her in a hug. He murmured, "Is it cold outside? Your clothes seem too light."
“I'm fine."
He warmed Bethany's hands but refrained from probing further.
Bethany found herself compelled to ask, "Why didn't you ask where I was?"
"If you feel like sharing, you'll tell me."
He was not about to press Bethany for information.
“Do you think I went out to see Jayson?" Bethany needed to clear the air. She worried that Jonathan might grow jealous and confront Jayson.
“I met with B7. I needed his help to recover some data on my USB driver. He mentioned there was an issue and needed to see me."
With that, she pulled up the text messages on her phone to show Jonathan.
He glanced at the phone and set it aside.
"IT trust you."
"Okay. But you seem upset." Bethany sensed his unease.
Jonathan looked into her eyes and said, "I feel like even though you're close to me, I can never truly reach you."
