Chapter: 866
Aimee wasn't one to rush into relationships. She approached them with a level head, not one to let emotions override her judgment.
When Nikolas heard she intended to visit Zeke, he quickly seized her wrist, insisting, "No, you can't go see him."
"I just want to check on him. After what happened last night, it would be rude not to. Nikolas, you can't just focus on how you feel and ignore my position. How am I supposed to explain this to my parents?"
In such moments, he could be childlike, stubborn, and unreasonably jealous, disregarding everything else.
Nikolas paused, then reluctantly offered, "Then I'll come with you."
"What will you do? Hit him again?"
"Apologize to him! You weren't the one who beat him, so you don't need to apologize. Just because he took my woman out to dinner, gave her roses, and spent time alone with her in the car late at night, doesn't justify my actions."
Aimee sensed his attempt at an apology sounded more like an accusation.
Nikolas sounded like Aimee had cheated on him.
"That's it. Let's go!" Nikolas grasped her hand, ready to leave.
Aimee, worried that he would confront Zeke again, resisted and exclaimed, "I can go on my own! Don't you have work to attend to?"
“My work's done for the day! Before Jonathan took off, he had me cover this meeting for him, and everything else can wait. I stayed late to finish up. Right now, you're my priority."
Nikolas was eager to marry Aimee, aiming for a serene family life akin to Jonathan's.
At a loss for words, Aimee simply rolled her eyes. Then, a thought struck her. "Before he took off? Where did Jonathan go?"
"He's off to Harvein with Bethany and the twins. They're not in Odonset, so complaining to him won't help now."
With a smile, Nikolas pulled Aimee's phone from his suit pocket and handed it back to her.
Aimee, taken aback, asked, “Did you bring my phone to work?"
“Yes. I didn't want you to find it at home."
“You really are hopeless.”
Bethany had never visited Harvein before.
Located in the north, Harvein had a somewhat dry air. With the passing of autumn, the northeastern climate grew chilly, ushering in a brisk, cooling wind. This was a stark contrast to Odonset, where they could get by with just a T-shirt and a light jacket.
Brody had already arranged a pickup for them at the airport.
Noticing Bethany shivering, Jonathan didn't hesitate to drape his trench coat over her shoulders.
Bethany looked up at him and insisted, "I'm fine. Really, it's not that cold. You should keep it."
