Chapter: 865
Dressed in a suit and tie, with his hair slicked back, he resembled a stern corporate executive, adding weight to his words.

Aimee wasn't sure if it was just her perception, but his tone seemed genuinely earnest.

Yet, she pressed, "If you're truly serious, then tell me. Why me?"

She forced herself to stay calm, aiming for a meaningful conversation.

Nikolas hesitated, struggling for words. "How can I put this? I simply want you."

“But there are surely others prettier, fitter, more sensible, more devoted than me among your exes. Why set your sights on marrying me?"

Aimee challenged him. “Is it because I'm a novelty to you since I resisted reaching out?"

Nikolas shifted uncomfortably, pressing his tongue against his cheek before loosening his tie. "You're reading too much into it. I'm not the type to chase every woman I meet."

Nikolas still remembered when Aimee suddenly suggested they spending the night together. Beyond his surprise and a hint of excitement, he felt no aversion at all.

So, Nikolas thought he might actually Like her.

He generally disliked women who clung to him, so much so that he could say he despised them, worried he might not be able to get rid of himself once they got too close.

"So, what's special about me?" Aimee asked.

She couldn't fathom why Nikolas would go to such lengths for her. It felt surreal-like a fantasy where a wealthy young man fell for her.

She considered herself utterly ordinary, so plain that she could easily disappear into a crowd. Aimee reasoned that it would make sense if he were interested in Bethany, given Bethany's innocent yet alluring appearance and stunning physique, traits that would typically draw men. In contrast, she felt she had nothing similar to offer.

"I don't know." Nikolas was sincere. "Don't think that because I've dated many women before, I'm skilled at flattery or have a collection of charming phrases. I genuinely don't use them often, so when you ask me these questions, I struggle to find the words. I really don't know what to say! How about you tell me what you want to hear, and I'll say that?"

This challenge was tougher for him than when Jonathan demanded a project file by the next day. He didn't even know where to begin, only knowing that if he answered wrong, he would have to console her again.

Nikolas had never cared for any of his past girlfriends as much as he cared for Aimee. In the past, if he found a woman physically appealing and they connected, he'd hand over a room key and later give her money, ensuring a straightforward end to their brief encounter. He had never pursued anyone as persistently or faced as much rejection as he had with Aimee.

Watching him scratch his head in puzzlement, Aimee couldn't help but laugh.

His behavior made it seem like he had never been in a relationship before. His hesitance was even more naive than Zeke's.

"Alright, let me out first, and I'll clear things up with Zeke. Then I'll call you, and we can discuss this later, okay?" Aimee wanted to give him some space to think things over.

This was about marriage-a serious commitment, not a trivial matter.

She also needed time to decide whether she should truly trust Nikolas.

After all, considering his looks, if they had a child together, it would undoubtedly be very beautiful. This seemed to be the most compelling reason Aimee could think of at the moment.

Talking about love was premature at this stage.
