Chapter: 869
"I don't appreciate that kind of humor." Jonathan's gaze was always so tender as if Bethany was the only person in his world. “Having you is enough for me. It's been that way since my school days, after graduation, and it's still the same now. It will continue."
Bethany blushed and looked away from him.
“Are you trying to wear me out completely?"
Jonathan gently patted her forehead, his deep voice vibrating slightly from his chest. "You ungrateful little thing."
Bethany's suspicion led to another intense encounter in the bathroom.
Later, as she lay in the bathtub and Jonathan washed her hair, Bethany squinted her eyes in thought.
How could this man have so much energy?
After the bath, Bethany was so exhausted that she immediately fell asleep in the bed.
Jonathan changed into his pajamas and headed upstairs.
Nola and Rowan were playing with blocks. More precisely, Nola was actively building while Rowan was half-heartedly participating, his attention partly on the computer beside them.
"Dad! Look at the castle I built!" As soon as Nola spotted Jonathan, she called out to him excitedly.
He sat down cross-legged on the carpet, touched his daughter's braid, and exclaimed, “Wow, you did such a great job."
“I built it all by myself. My brother didn't help!"
Hearing this, Rowan scoffed, “I'm working on the firewall here. It will be done soon."
Watching his children and thinking of Bethany, peacefully asleep downstairs, Jonathan felt an overwhelming sense of happiness, certain he could not be happier in this life.
Bethany woke to find darkness outside her window.
She eased herself upright, the lingering soreness between her legs a dull reminder of the day's earlier exertions. Nevertheless, she managed to get out of bed.
The first floor was silent, save for a solitary warm light glowing in the living room. It appeared no one had ventured down for some time.
As Bethany neared the stairwell, the sound of Jonathan engaging with the children drifted up to her.
Jonathan was always patient with them. He listened intently to Nola's and Rowan's questions before responding thoughtfully.
Despite the demands of his role at Bates Group, here he was, dedicating his evening to their children.
The sound of their laughter prompted Jonathan to glance up.
“Mommy's here!" Nola exclaimed as she raced into Bethany's arms.
“Look, Daddy got us new toys. I just opened them!"
