Chapter: 87
He implied that Jacob wasn't a serious contender for Bethany's attention.
As Jonathan headed into the bathroom, Bethany was left pondering his words.
It appeared he didn't want her in the junior high school classmates' group, chat and he seemed to have an aversion to Jacob.
During her recent business trip with Brody, she learned much from him-not only skills in background investigation but also effective communication techniques.
After returning to Odonset, Bethany had two days off, but she devoted all her time to finalizing Jayson's project with Brody.
She had just sent in the project when she decided to see her mother in the hospital. That was when her phone rang.
“Mom, how are you?"
“Have you returned to Odonset?"
Bethany detected a note of seriousness in her mother's voice that made her uneasy.
“Yes. I'm on my way to see you at the hospital now."
“We'll talk when you get here."
With that, Marie ended the call abruptly.
Looking at the black phone screen, Bethany worried that her father might be causing trouble for her mother again. She had just returned and didn't want to stir any trouble with Marie.
Bethany stood up, ready to leave East Shade Bay. Just as she opened the door, she saw Jonathan pulling up in his car.
"Are you going to the hospital?" he asked, stepping out of the car and quickly surmising her plans.
"Yes. I need to speak with her doctor about her condition."
"I'll come with you."
"No need!" Bethany said quickly, her voice sharper than intended. She hurriedly explained, "My mother... She's not fond of having visitors. It's nothing personal."
Jonathan didn't push further. He simply nodded and said, "Then I'll drive you there."
This time, Bethany didn't refuse. Taxis were scarce in this area, after all.
They reached the hospital.
She paused to wave as Jonathan drove off, then turned and walked into the hospital.
At the door to the ward, two tall and muscular bodyguards stood, attracting curious looks from those passing by.
Bethany entered the room with the fruit she had purchased at the hospital and found Marie lying in the bed.
