Chapter: 893
Despite his gentle appearance, Jayson was stubborn and hard to sway.
“I'll drive you there and wait outside," Nikolas insisted. "No matter who you're dealing with-your parents or your cousin-as long as you stand by me, no one can tear us apart."
Moved by his commitment, Aimee nodded in agreement.
Bethany was moved too.
She often wondered if her relationship with Jonathan could survive after she sent Jonathan's mother to prison.
Would he still stand by her then?
“What are you thinking about?" Jonathan drew closer and kissed her forehead.
Bethany managed a smile. "Nothing much. I was just thinking... Nikolas really cares for Aimee. I hope things work out for them."
"I think it's more than just caring. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't heard his words myself."
That was not the Nikolas he knew.
Nikolas was known as a playboy. Yet now, here he was, serious about settling down and starting a family with Aimee.
Bethany was surprised but she respected Aimee's decision. As Aimee herself had said, the future was unpredictable, and living in the moment was what mattered.
Looking up at Jonathan, Bethany changed the subject. "Once you're done with your business, should we head back to Wesden? I'm concerned about your injury."
"There's no rush. There's something else I need to take care of first."
“What's that?"
"I want us to visit your mother's grave together."
Bethany stiffened immediately. Her expression became serious.
She didn't even have time to turn away from Jonathan's gaze.
"I can handle it myself," she stated firmly.
She attempted to leave, but Jonathan's hand gripped her wrist. “Why won't you tell me what's going on?"
“There's no particular reason. I simply want to go by myself,”
Bethany said, struggling to free herself from his hold.
As Jonathan noticed her struggle and grew concerned about her potential injury, he abruptly released her, causing her to stagger a few steps. Luckily, he quickly reached out and pulled her back into his embrace.
Trying to make sense of Bethany's strange behavior, Jonathan asked cautiously, "Is this because your mother disapproved of me when she was alive?"
