Chapter: 917
“Why bring him up again?"
“Jayson deliberately mentioned your mother in front of you just to boast that he can go there and I can't."
Jonathan was sharp. How could he not understand?
Bethany paused, feeling a need to clarify. "I didn't tell Jayson I was going to the cemetery today. He didn't know. We just happened to meet there, so... we left together."
"As far as I'm aware, he doesn't have relatives buried in this cemetery."
Bethany was at a loss for words. That was indeed the case.
"And I also heard from the staff that he was visiting his mother-in-law."
Bethany was taken aback and said, "You must have heard wrong."
"No, I heard correctly."
"It's unlikely Jayson would say that. He didn't try to stop us when we took the kids back, even though he didn't want them to leave. I've had several private discussions with him. He's committed to going on a blind date and finding a girlfriend. Let's not be too harsh on him, okay?"
"Let's see if he actually finds a girlfriend."
Jonathan was skeptical that Jayson would genuinely pursue a relationship.
Bethany exhaled deeply and said, “I don't know what else to say. I didn't mean to defend Jayson, and I don't want to trigger your jealousy. All I know is that Jayson and I can only be friends. There's simply no other option."
Even in the dim light, Jonathan's gaze met Bethany's.
They stared into each other's eyes for a prolonged moment. Finally, she heard his deep sigh.
"I just can't seem to win with you."
It felt like she was always the one pulling the strings.
“How could that be? You're a powerful CEO."
"How can I be powerful when you're always holding me back?"
Without Bethany, he would have banished Jayson from the country and ensure he never returned. He was willing to provide Jayson with money, lodging, a house, and a car, just as long as he stayed away from Bethany.
"Don't be harsh with Jayson," Bethany advised.
Jonathan responded by pinching her cheek and saying, "If we're talking about being harsh, think about Ryan."
Bethany found herself at a loss for words.
Jonathan's domineering nature was undeniable.
