Chapter: 922
Jonathan had the good grace not to repeat his statement.

Instead, he said, "It's nothing. I'm done with work. Where do you want to go?"

“Is Nikolas still in the company?"

“Why are you asking?" Jonathan replied with a frown.

Bethany stared at Jonathan for a while before finally saying, “Aimee suggested we have dinner together."

"Yes, he's still here."

"Alright." Bethany then moved closer to Jonathan before asking, "Why were you jealous when I asked of Nikolas? You know he's your friend, right?"

“I just don't Like you asking about other men."

His answer left Bethany dumbfounded.

She hadn't expected him to be such a possessive man. Bethany had thought him aloof and taciturn. She had even thought he didn't care much about her, as he gave her a lot of freedom. However, it seemed he had just been pretending.

It must have been very hard for him to pretend.

"Why am I just noticing how jealous you are?" Bethany asked.

"If you had known earlier, wouldn't you have run away?"

Bethany thought about this for a while. Smiling sheepishly, she said, "Yes."

She wasn't really a big fan of a person being overly enthusiastic around her or trying to force their presence on her. If she were forced to accept someone's presence in her world, she would definitely reject such a person.

“That's exactly why you didn't know," Jonathan said matter-of-factly.

Bethany pouted. "You know me so well. You didn't do any research on me, did you?"

“You've been my desk mate for quite a number of years and have never borrowed even a pen. Do you then think I need to go out of my way to do research to know you?"

When she was a student, she made sure not to owe anyone anything, nor did she let others owe her.

She did this not because she feared she would suffer any loss but because it kept her away from socializing as she had no idea how to deal with people.

“Was I always like that?" Bethany asked. Thinking about it, she realized Jonathan was right.

“You were always so serious and courteous. You never forgot to thank me when I held your school bag."

Bethany didn't know how to reply to this, so she stayed quiet.

Jonathan continued, "That was why, when you gave me back the letter, I thought you refused."
