Chapter: 963
Samira, unlike Maddie, wasn't cunning.
She was inherently good-natured, straightforward, always cheerful and principled. More importantly, the Bates family would welcome her.
Samira was stunned. "You're suggesting I take your place with him?"
"Only if Jonathan accepts you."
It would depend on whether Samira could make Jonathan like her.
“He won't." Samira knew the answer instantly. “When Jonathan was critically ill, he called out your name over and over! It's fair to say he might not have pulled through that major surgery without you. I don't have the heart to come between such a profound love, nor do I believe I could ever take your place."
Though she harbored idealistic notions of love with Jonathan, the reality of his deep feelings for Bethany made her hesitate.
Even if she ended up marrying Jonathan, she would merely be a substitute.
Perhaps she wouldn't even amount to that. Samira doubted Jonathan would ever truly connect with her.
With those words, she walked away.
Bethany remained seated alone on the bench, her eyes slowly welling up with tears. She then covered her face and began to sob quietly.
Soon after, Jonathan realized Bethany was missing.
He quickly wrapped up his video conference and tried calling her.
She didn't pick up.
Panic gripped Jonathan. He hurried out of the ward without bothering to put on his coat.
Had she left?
He had reassured her that he would secure the evidence needed and told her not to worry.
Jonathan couldn't find Bethany anywhere in the hospital. He tried calling her again, but there was still no answer.
Suddenly, a sharp pain struck his chest. He clutched at his heart.
Just as he was about to contact the security room to check Bethany's whereabouts, he spotted her entering through the gate, her head bowed.
Bethany sensed his stare and looked up.
"Jon."
Before she could fully say his name, she found herself wrapped in his embrace.
With their height difference, Bethany's head only reached his chest, allowing her to hear the rapid thumping of his heart.
