Chapter: 977
Rubbing the sleep from her eyes, Bethany slipped out of bed and started her search. The doctor's office was empty, and the hospital corridors echoed with silence.
Frustrated, she returned to the ward, hoping her phone would provide some answers. When she called Jonathan, his ringtone rang from the nightstand.
He hadn't taken his phone. A sense of unease settled in.
This was unlike Jonathan.
She stepped back into the corridor and spotted Samira, a familiar face in the hospital. "Samira, have you seen Jonathan?"
Samira shook her head, concern knitting her brows. "No. Isn't he in the ward?"
"No. He was gone when I woke up."
“Why don't you check the surveillance room? If he left the hospital, he'd have to go through either the main entrance or the back door."
Bethany nodded. "Good idea. I'll check there."
In Wesden, apart from calling Jonathan, Bethany couldn't do anything else.
Feeling a mix of worry and determination, Bethany made her way towards the surveillance room. Just as she reached the door, she heard Samira call out behind her, “Bethany, Jonathan is at the entrance."
Bethany turned and peered over the railing. Sure enough, there was Jonathan, standing at the hospital entrance.
"Thank you, Samira."
Bethany hurried downstairs, questions bubbling up inside her. Why had he Left the hospital so early? And where had he gone?
Bethany couldn't clearly see downstairs from where she was standing.
When she finally saw Jonathan up close, she froze.
His face was ashen, his lips drained of color, and he looked as if he could collapse at any moment.
“Jonathan? What happened to you?"
She rushed toward him, but he stepped back.
“I'm fine," he rasped, his voice hoarse and unrecognizable.
Bethany frowned. "Did you go out at dawn?"
It didn't make sense for him to look this bad after just an hour or two away from the ward.
"I'm tired. I want to go back and rest for a while," Jonathan muttered, avoiding her gaze. He walked past her with long, hurried strides.
It was a stark contrast to his usual demeanor-he never acted like this before.
