Chapter: 980
"Possibly." Bethany wasn't entirely sure.
Samira quickly got up, saying, "Then I should come with you!"
"No, he won't let you in. Just give them to me, I'll handle it."
Bethany sprinted back to the ward, timing her arrival perfectly. It was exactly ten minutes. She pushed open the door, relieved to find Jonathan had kept his promise and hadn't locked it from the inside.
Jonathan emerged from the bathroom, dripping wet, leaving a puddle of water on the floor.
Bethany knew he probably didn't want to talk right now. Without waiting for him to say something, she moved quickly to the wardrobe and got some clean clothes. She then began to undress him, carefully peeling off each soaking wet garment.
Jonathan remained silent, like a puppet, allowing her to change him into dry clothes. After everything was done, Bethany was exhausted to the point of collapse.
Wrapping her arms around his waist, she spoke softly, "Go lie down on the bed for a while, okay?"
“Aren't you going to ask?"
Bethany rested her cheek against his chest, and said, "I won't ask. Whatever you've discovered, I don't need to know. Just tell me if you're hurt anywhere, and I'll help you apply some medicine, okay?"
Jonathan shook his head, pressing her hand firmly against his heart.
“My heart hurts."
"Then... should we call Samira to take a look?"
"Only you can save me."
Bethany was taken aback by his words.
She felt like she might be the reason behind Jonathan's odd behavior, but didn't want to ask.
With only a few days left in her one-month agreement with Godfrey, she wanted to focus on making the most of the remaining time with Jonathan. She wasn't interested in talking about the future or opening new wounds.
Gently, she guided him back to the bed, covered him with a thick blanket, and held him close to provide warmth.
"Sleep for a while, okay?" she said softly.
Bethany didn't insist on applying the medicine anymore; she just wanted him to get some rest.
It was unclear exactly when Jonathan had left early that morning, but one thing was certain that he had clearly encountered something troubling.
Jonathan's hand tightened around her waist, pulling her into his arms.
“If I fall asleep, will you leave?"
"I won't leave," Bethany assured him. "I'll stay right here with you."
