Chapter: 569
But her uncertainty about Joshua's safety held her back.
She was forced to depend on Jerald.
She responded bitterly, “Jerald, Caden is merciless, and he's set on destroying the Yates family. Now that he's targeted Joshua, you're next. How long do you think you can remain untouched?"
Her words struck a nerve with Jerald.
She was correct.
He had walked away from his family, always an irritant to Caden.
If Caden truly unleashed his wrath, not even his status as Caden's father would protect him.
Jerald's eyes flickered with urgency. “We need to take a risk to save Joshua.”
Shelia managed to curb her anger and asked, "What do we do?"
Jerald, noticing her agitation, tried to pacify her as one might soothe a frightened animal, saying, "Shelia, we can sort out our differences later. For now, we need to work together."
Joshua had been receiving covert medical treatment, unknown to many.
The Green family was aware, though.
Joshua's company, which he had managed so meticulously, was destroyed overnight, and he had sustained severe injuries. Recent surgery had left him unmanly.
He was also undergoing treatment for his vision.
It was uncertain if he would regain his sight.
Should his treatments fail, he would be both blind and impotent.
He'd be utterly defeated.
Lilliana was devastated by the news. She wept and caused uproar at home, pleading with Cedric to intervene.
However, Cedric was hesitant to act.
He decided to dismiss the matter.
"You're engaged, not married. We don't need someone so broken. I'1L find you someone better," he said to Lilliana.
But Lilliana's love for Joshua was real. Despite her usual pride, she deeply cared for him.
She wouldn't have risked pregnancy before marriage to be with him otherwise.
Now, with Joshua in dire straits, she was frantic, even threatening Cedric with the life of both hers and her child's. “If you don't save him, I'll end my life and my baby's! You'll regret this forever!"
Faced with Lilliana holding a knife to her throat, Cedric felt both powerless and anxious. “Lilliana, you don't understand the situation. My hands are tied. Even if I wanted to save Joshua, I couldn't. Caden is bent on seeing him dead, and nobody can change his mind!"
“Why does he want Joshua dead? They're brothers. Why would he want that?" Lilliana shouted.
Cedric answered, "Why do you think? Because of their old grudges, because there's a woman involved, and because Caden wants to defend Alicia! Didn't you know what Joshua did last month?"
Stunned by the revelation, Lilliana murmured in confusion, “For Alicia?"
Cedric had been taken aback when he first heard it. "I can't fathom what's going through Caden's mind. To go far over a woman, even turning against his own brother."
Lilliana turned deathly pale and collapsed to the ground.
