Chapter: 1809
Libby's gaze met June's reflection, a glint of certainty in them.
“Why are you asking, Mom? You know exactly who it is."
June's eyebrows shot up in surprise.
"Carson's taking you out?" she asked with curiosity.
Libby stared at June intently, as though scrutinizing any change in her expression.
“Yes, Mom. Remember we're engaged? We're going shopping tonight.
He'll pick me up later," Libby clarified, turning around.
“But the engagement..." June began but halted, deliberating her words.
After Rosa's abrupt departure from the wedding four years ago, Libby had become Carson's fiancee. While everyone knew of their engagement, June suspected Carson might not intend to marry her after all. Why else would the marriage be postponed for four whole years?
"Mom, do you think Carson should marry Rosa? You don't prefer me with him, right?" Libby inquired.
June quickly shook her head. "No, Libby, that's not it.”
Sitting on the bed's edge, Libby feigned understanding. “Honestly, I don't blame you for thinking that way.. After all, Rosa is your biological daughter. Naturally, you'd want what's best for her."
June did harbor some guilt regarding Rosa.
However, the sentiment wasn't overwhelming. After all, Libby had been by her side over the years.
For her, both were her daughters, and she shouldn't show favoritism towards either.
“Libby, I never felt that way," June clarified, careful not to hurt Libby's feelings. "Both you and Rosa matter equally to me. Although you're not my biological child, it doesn't change a thing. I just worry that Carson might not treat you well. I fear he might make things difficult for you."
Turning back to June, Libby asked, "So, Mom, you support my relationship with Carson?"
"Uh-huh, I do," June stated with a smile.
Resting her head on June's shoulder, Libby expressed, "Thank you, Mom!
I know you won't be unfair."
Before another word could be spoken, a servant's voice interrupted from outside. "Miss, you can't barge in like this..."
As the words hovered in the air, the room's door abruptly swung open.
Libby rose from her seat, startled, only to find Rosa striding in.
Pak! Libby was met with a sudden, unexpected slap from Rosa.
