Averie, who was heading toward the kitchen, stopped and looked at Cathy, curious.

“I've noticed you've been growing a lot lately. I picked up some new clothes for you," Cathy explained, opening the package to reveal a top and a pair of pants. "Give these a try. If they don't fit, I'll return them tomorrow when I go to work."

"I already have clothes," Averie said quietly, her lips tightening.

She hadn't bought new clothes in two years.

Cathy had thought about buying her some but Averie always said she didn't need any.
