Chapter: 665
“Anyway, Joey, I brought you some pajamas. It's a little late, so the shops have already closed. I couldn't buy any suitable pajamas for the time being, so I had no choice but to give you the pajamas that Mr. Sullivan wore during his childhood. It might be a little big, though."
"As long as I can wear them, it's fine," replied Joey.
Lukas nodded. Upon noticing the beads of sweat on the boy's forehead, he thought that something was amiss, but he couldn't tell what it was.
Suppressing his doubts, he said, “Put them on. If they don't fit,
I'll ask the servant to see what she can do."
“Sure.” Joey then walked into the room and saw the neatly folded pajamas that Lukas had placed on the bed.
They were dark blue silk pajamas.
The pajamas were indeed a little big, but he didn't say anything. He just went into the bathroom and put the pajamas on.
Moments later, he came out.
Now that he was wearing the pajamas, he looked like a child that had worn an adult's clothes. Even though he had rolled up his sleeves and the trouser legs, the pajamas still looked sloppy, and the pants were about to fall off after he had only taken a few steps.
"I'LL ask the servant to make some alterations," Lukas said when he saw the boy.
"The pajamas were what Mr. Sullivan wore back when he was seven years old. Mrs. Sullivan just brought him back."
Joey shook his long sleeves, perplexed by Lukas’ remark.
“Mrs.
Sullivan took him back?"
Lukas stepped forward to help Joey roll up his sleeves.
"Yes. I remember the very first time I saw Mr. Sullivan. He was so thin. But whenever he saw Mrs. Sullivan, he never cried or made any noise. He just stood in attention."
“And what happened before he was seven years old?" asked Joey.
Upon hearing the question, Lukas suddenly paused.
Upon hearing the question, Lukas sighed silently and his eyes dimmed.
He continued to roll up Joey's sleeves, stood up and tried steering the conversation to another direction.
"Well, it's getting late now, and you should be in bed already. Make sure your wounds don't get wet. If you need anything, you can call me, okay?"
Joey could sense that Lukas didn't want to continue with their conversation. This made him even more curious and doubtful about everything, but he was sensible enough not to ask him any more questions. He looked down at his sleeves and nodded.
Seeing him nod, Lukas smiled and turned around to leave the room.
"Wait a minute!" Joey called out.
