Chapter: 1136
Norah refused Marlin with firmness, never leaving room for false hopes.

Marlin took a deep breath to control the sorrow welling up inside him and pretended to be calm. “I knew you wouldn't agree to be with me; I just needed to express my feelings. Even if you reject me, I won't bother you. Let's stay good friends."

In his thoughts, Marlin admitted that it would suffice if he could be her clandestine protector.

Norah was unaware that the kidnapping had left Marlin deeply traumatized. He feared the dark at night and shied away from any physical touch with women.

Marlin had once thought Dolores was the right one for him. When he brought her close, he only ever held her hand or gave her a hug.

After each contact with Dolores, he would spend a long time in the bathroom, trying to cleanse himself of the lingering sensation.

Dolores had wanted to make out with him, but he always pushed her away, unable to bear it.

However, he felt truly at ease and comforted only by Norah's side.

She was like a beacon in his darkness.

He hoped they could be together, but he wouldn't force her if it wasn't possible.

"If you ever need help in Silverdale, come to me. My family has much sway in the city. Don't hesitate to ask for a favor. You saved me once, and we owe you."

Marlin was observant. He understood why Norah hesitated to ask him for help.

As for Norah, she planned to stay another month in Silverdale and was open to Marlin's suggestions.

"Alright. But remember, I have high standards for friends. You must always strive to be the best," Norah teased, trying to Lighten the mood. Marlin laughed in response.

Upon reaching the hotel, Norah got out of the car.

“Just a moment. I need to go up and grab something."

Marlin, waiting in the car, responded with a warm smile and said, "Okay."

Norah returned in less than five minutes, carrying a small bag.

"It's packed with scented candles and sachets that aid in sleep. You might consider sleeping without the light on to improve your sleep at night."

In the cave, Marlin's actions made it clear that he might be scared of the dark and had trouble sleeping.

Norah had made these things when creating a perfume for Sean and Susanna. She hoped they would help Marlin.

Marlin accepted them and expressed his gratitude, saying, "Thank you."

“I'm heading up first. Bye."

As she walked away, Marlin gently said, “Can't we at least share a meal together?"

Norah, of course, did not hear him.

At the Scott family residence.

Nancy had returned to her room for a rest the previous night and didn't come out until noon the next day. She must have been frightened. The Scotts awaited her explanation.

Susanna was unaware of the situation. Such matters were not brought to her attention by her family.

Kayla had been speaking favorably about Nancy to Sean while slandering him with cruel accusations.

As Sean's close friend, even Jaxson found this hard to tolerate.

However, Sean acted as if he didn't hear anything and remained silent.

That evening, at dinner, Kayla defended Nancy once more.

“Sean, I don't care what you do outside. But you must maintain a basic moral standard. Nancy is your sister. How could you take advantage of her? That's too horri..."

Seizing the opportunity, Matteo quickly shoved a spoonful of food into Kayla's mouth, silencing her before she could speak further.

Matteo observed Sean's reaction closely. The conversation from the day before seemed to have made a difference; at least Sean managed to maintain his composure.

"Just eat. If there's something to discuss, we can talk after dinner."
