Chapter: 111
“Mrs. Hewitt, I implore you, show me some compassion. The child I carry is Alan's. Isn't a great-grandchild what you've always desired?"
Upon entering, Lilliana prostrated herself at Beth's feet, pleading for sanctuary.
Beth arched an eyebrow. “Is this the truth?"
“Absolutely! Here, please look at the hospital test results."
Lilliana was well-prepared, having even secured the family doctor's complicity with Miguel's assistance.
Beth's reaction to the confirmation was a broad, gratified smile.
"Rise now. As you bear a child of our family, there's no cause for you to kneel." Beth's expression softened remarkably, and she extended a hand to help Lilliana to her feet. "Grab some prenatal medicine for Lilliana and tell the kitchen to prepare a nourishing nest soup for her!"
In that moment, Lilliana felt as if she had been transported from dire straits to divine grace. Her face lit up with a radiant smile, and she affectionately intertwined her arm with Beth's. "I am truly blessed to be expecting Alan's child."
"Indeed, it is a blessing. You have done well, Lilliana. From now on, consider yourself under my protection. Whatever you require, simply ask."
Overjoyed, Lilliana's smile stretched wide.
She savored a sumptuous meal and later ascended the stairs to find rest.
Elsewhere, Kaitlin had been released from the hospital and went to the Hewitt family's old mansion alongside Alan, ready to clarify the unfolding events.
Upon their arrival, Beth greeted them with open arms, immediately linking hers with Kaitlin's.
"Kaitlin, come along, I've prepared something delightful for you."
Displayed on the table were the remnants of the medicine Lilliana had left uneaten. Kaitlin cast a glance at the dish and sensed an underlying tension.
“Beth, has word of Lilliana's pregnancy reached you?" she asked.
Beth responded with a serene smile. “Indeed, I'm well informed. Lilliana made sure to visit me herself."
“And your reaction was."
"Set your worries aside, Kaitlin. There's a matter I wish to discuss with both of you. Please, sit." Beth ushered her into a chair, and the ensuing conversation took Kaitlin completely by surprise.
"Though Lilliana carries Alan's child, I cannot accept her as part of the family. A woman of her ilk does not meet our standards. Therefore, I propose a solution. We shall keep the child but sever ties with the mother. We will raise the child as if it were your own. How does that sound?"
Kaitlin felt a tightness in her chest as she gazed at the elderly woman, overwhelmed by a sense of unfamiliarity.
Beth, who had always shown kindness to her, was now revealing her true nature.
"You've never been able to have a child, right? Kaitlin, being married is destiny. A child isn't worth ending your marriage over. Now that there is a child, you both can raise it together. Don't be angry with Alan."
Alan interjected, “Grandma, what are you saying?"
