Chapter: 141
Just then, the chef arrived with their food.

"Let's eat first. We can discuss this later!" Kaitlin said.

They enjoyed a satisfying meal, which helped dissipate much of Kaitlin's lingering frustration.

Reassured by Alan, Kaitlin resolved to let the issue go. "I've got a prenatal appointment soon."

Alan nodded his agreement. "I'll come with you."

"We'll see how things stand that day. If you're swamped, I can handle it on my own." Kaitlin was aware of Alan's hectic schedule.

“A prenatal check-up? It's too important to miss. I'll make the time. Don't worry." He pulled her into a comforting embrace.

Kaitlin didn't push back.

After tidying up, the chef discreetly left them alone.

On the morning of the appointment, Alan had rearranged his plans to be there for Kaitlin.

Together, they headed to the hospital and underwent a series of examinations.

Alan was a pillar of support the entire time.

As they waited for the final test, Alan's phone rang. It was Ashley.

Kaitlin noticed his hesitation. "Take the call if you need to."

Alan read Kaitlin's face carefully before accepting the call. "What's happened?"

From the other end came the sound of crying and Ashley's distraught voice.

“Alan, I was at the project site, and had an accident. My leg..."

Alan's brow furrowed. “Why were you on site?"

“It's my project. I wanted to check on everything myself. So I went..."

Ashley's crying intensified. Alan cast a helpless look at Kaitlin, torn.

"Alan, it hurts so much. I don't understand how it happened. As I was losing consciousness, all I could think about was you. I kept wondering... what if I never saw you again..."

The gravity of her words deepened the worry etched on Alan's face.

Kaitlin diverted her gaze as the doctor handed her the final check-up results.

Everything checked out normal, easing her anxiety. Feeling relieved, she decided it was time to head home.
