Chapter: 284
She had a flirtatious smile playing on her lips.

Miguel scrutinized her dismissively. “So, what brings you here today, really?" he asked impatiently.

Ashley knew better than to try deceiving Miguel. Fortunately, she knew exactly what to say. "I want to partner with you once more, this time to bring down the Hewitt Group," she said confidently.

Miguel raised an eyebrow, amused by her audacity. "Do you even understand my current predicament?" he asked sarcastically.

Despite his former power, Miguel had failed to overthrow Alan in the past and had ended up on the wanted list.

If not for Beth's intervention, he might have been imprisoned long ago.

"Miguel, would you really let a minor hiccup like this stop you? It's not like you." Ashley moved closer, her voice encouraging. "The reason we didn't succeed before is that we didn't understand him well enough. If we uncover his vulnerabilities, it would surely make our task of overcoming him easier, right?"

"Vulnerabilities?" Miguel's interest was piqued as he turned to face Ashley.

"You're not suggesting that Kaitlin is his weak spot, are you? I don't need you to tell me such obvious things."

"How could I waste your time with such trivial details?" Ashley dismissed the thought with a wave of her hand. “I'm suggesting there's something that could be our leverage against Alan within the Hewitt Group's internal projects."

Miguel began buying Ashley's story. “Make it clear. What internal projects are you talking about?"

Ashley let out a hollow laugh and kept up the pretense. “I stumbled upon information that there were issues with some of the projects from a decade ago. If we could uncover any evidence of tax evasion or covert operations by the Hewitt Group, Alan would be trapped."

Ashley paused, gauging Miguel's reaction carefully.

As expected, Miguel appeared convinced by what she had said, so she kept going. “With such evidence, our likelihood of success increases, doesn't it?"

Miguel looked at her thoughtfully. “If you are so committed, why not look into it yourself?"

"Those are highly confidential documents that I'm not cleared to access." Ashley sighed, her tone one of frustration. "If I could do it myself, I wouldn't need to bother you."

Miguel responded casually, "Then why involve me?"

"I need your authorization." Finally, Ashley revealed her true intention.

"You mean... My authorization?"

Ashley confirmed with a nod.

In fact, she wasn't entirely certain if Miguel would be of any help.

Yet, she was left without other choice.

Miguel didn't react with anger. Instead, he took a moment to think.

“I can help you, but you need to specify which project from ten years ago you're interested in investigating."
