Chapter: 293
Tomorrow marked the preliminary stage of the Estresa Element Design Competition. Kaitlyn knew she needed an early night to be sharp and ready.
As she mingled, several people approached to greet her, and Kaitlyn engaged warmly with each of them.
Yet, throughout the evening, she felt an intense gaze on her filled with scrutiny and curiosity.
Initially, Kaitlyn dismissed it, but just as she prepared to leave, she sensed someone behind her.
Turning, she was met by Denton. "Mr. Gilbert, how can I help you?" she asked.
“I'm just seeking a quieter spot. It's rather loud here, and I could use some fresh air," Denton explained.
Kaitlyn offered a polite, albeit slightly awkward, smile. It seemed she had been overthinking his presence.
“Of course, Mr. Gilbert," she responded, maintaining her courteous demeanor.
They entered the elevator together.
"Is this your first visit to Estresa, Ms. Gilbert?" Denton asked as the doors closed.
"Yes," Kaitlyn responded with a nod.
"There's a nice coffee shop nearby. Would you like to try it?" he offered.
Kaitlyn pressed the elevator button for her floor. "I'm sorry, Mr. Gilbert. I can't have coffee," she said, smiling sheepishly.
She then subtly angled her body to highlight her pregnancy.
Thinking that Denton was hitting on her, she crafted a gentle refusal.
“I understand. I'm sorry." Denton nodded, his expression apologetic.
“Being pregnant and serving as a judge is commendable. Please, take care of yourself, Ms. Gilbert."
Meeting his gaze, Kaitlyn saw genuine sincerity, not the expected embarrassment or disdain.
Perhaps she had misjudged him.
"You remind me of someone I know, so I feel a certain connection with you. Would it be alright if we chatted for a bit?" Denton said, his tone inviting.
Just then, the elevator dinged, and the doors slid open.
Snapped back to reality, Kaitlyn realized it was her floor. "Of course, I don't mind chatting, but I'm quite exhausted today. Could we perhaps talk tomorrow?" she suggested.
Without waiting for his reply, Kaitlyn exited the elevator and gave Denton a parting wave.
Behind the closing doors, Denton nodded and sighed.
